RADMILLA CODY Initiative Radio 2012 Black History Maker Honoree
Angela McKenzie presents the second edition of Initiative Radio's 2012 Salute to Black History Makers series. Her guest Radmilla Cody is a Navajo born woman who is equally proud of both her Native Indian and Black heritage. Radmilla is an award-winning singer, an anti-domestic violence advocate and in 1997 she became the 46th Miss Navajo Nation. She is the first and thus far only Miss Navajo who is Indian and Black. Winning the crown was a victory however it did not sit well with Navajo purists who believe that being part Black disqualified Radmilla from representing the Navajo people; in spite of the fact that she speaks the language fluently and is highly skilled in Navjo cultural practices. Radmilla has overcome this type of discrimination and other obstacles along the way to achieve many victories including the recent release her 5th album "Shi Keyah" through Canyon Records.
This year, Radmilla Cody is Initiative Radio's 2012 Black History Maker Honoree and she was awarded the crystal microphone trophy. So sit back and enjoy an in depth conversation with Radmilla and a generous sampling of her music.
Initiative Radio highlights the work of organizations both for profit & not-for-profit, individuals of repute ordinary persons who are professionally & personally obligated to making a difference in their community & the world at large
